This fascinating and challenging project for a commercial client involved knocking down and rebuilding two adjacent houses in a narrow and well hidden street in Knightsbridge. In a narrow central London thoroughfare such as this, the needs of neighbouring owners are a major factor to be negotiated throughout construction, and a demanding project timeline and some toing and froing over layout possibilities added further to the challenge.
The two houses themselves offered rather modest space with which to work, and we addressed this in part by placing an open plan kitchen diner on the first floor of each. With one house possessing a garage, while the other did not, we applied different bedroom configurations to the two properties, giving them pleasing individual characters, while both have a master suite on the top floor and second bedrooms at ground floor level. A practical and highly attractive commercial redevelopment.
